“I won’t be back,” Terminator Salvation Fails

PosterWhen James Cameron first debuted Terminator back in 1984 I was quite mesmerized (when I saw it but not alive at the time) not by Schwarzenegger’s steroid pumped pecs but by the depth of the story line and how the small intricate details were developed. Of course sequel after sequel the franchise slowly deteriorated into the watered down action flicks that we are forced into believing have some promise of value rather than just desensitizing entertainment.

Once again my hopes were uplifted that maybe Christian Bale could batman (verb) some life into Terminator Salvation. I should have been forewarned that the previews showed the same five select scenes over and over again. But I, like the average American audience, is intrigued by short clips of intense action coupled by motivating song lyrics and bass rifts.

Bale does not provide Salvation for Terminator but it’s not like he even had a chance. For some reason after the nuclear fire the human race who supposedly were terminated to the brink of extinction have an unlimited amount of resources including planes, vehicles, and even a tactical nuclear submarine. The sets are poorly crafted providing no realism to this already flawed movie.

So someone wanted to squeeze all of the juice left out of this franchise and they don’t do a bad job producing a “fun” movie. But, for anyone who is a fan of the series will be incredibly disapointed as they trade depth for senseless action. This happens more often then not and really I should have anticipated it before I let my girlfriend buy me a ticket. Ha that last line was a joke, but my biggest problem is why would Bale enlist for such a film?

I think that one could get the idea that the movie doesn’t have a chance of being anything substantial simply by reading the script, but I guess if you’re Christian Bale you’re not interested in solidifying your legitimacy as an actor.  I can’t blame him though for doing a film for the extra dollar, I imagine the court fees are expensive for beating on your family members. I guess all of the real actors end at Vincent Chase.

Stay at home or go out and do something else instead of going to see Terminator Salvation. Overall I score Terminator Salvation; a 6 out of 10.
